Final Reflection:
Writing my English thesis paper has furthered my educational goals because it has solidified my desire to go to graduate school. At the beginning of this quarter, I was still unsure what I should do after I graduate, but putting in all the work to write my thesis paper made me realize that I really enjoy researching and writing about topics that I am genuinely interested in. This experience has also furthered my personal goals because I was able to learn a lot about alcohol consumption in society, which was something I had wanted to research for awhile. The phenomena has always been very perplexing to me and I frequently wondered about its connections to capitalism, another topic that I spend a lot of time wondering about.
Although I will not be continuing to do research for this thesis paper, I do plan to continue exploring and pursuing things that I find interesting. I will do this through graduate school, but also in my everyday life. This thesis paper has shown me how rewarding it can be to follow what piques my curiosity.
In terms of what I learned about myself, I learned that I can be resilient in times of difficulty, but also that sometimes school is not always the most important thing to focus on. This quarter was extremely distressing for me (as I'm sure it was for many others) and especially towards the end of the quarter I had to balance all my final projects with helping my roommates make signs for the BLM protests and working with my band on a livestream concert fundraiser to benefit Communities United Against Police Brutality and the NAACP Legal Defense Fund, which I am currently still planning. I also had to deal with my grandma being in a nursing home where half the patients contracted coronavirus and working with my family to move her to a safer place. The fact that I had to do research and write my thesis this quarter, during a time of pandemics and protests, is something I am proud of accomplishing. I am glad that I somehow got it done while having to deal with these unprecedented events that have affected us all and also having to deal with balancing a 16-credit course load and part-time job. Because of all this, I have learned that I am capable of handling a lot under immense pressure.
